General Summary

Qualcomm IT is searching for a Linux systems administrator with Kubernetes experience, to aid in building, deploying, and troubleshooting bare-metal on-premises and cloud-based multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters using Rancher. The Kubernetes distributions in use include RKE (on-prem) and GKE, EKS, AKS (cloud). Daily responsibilities involve monitoring the performance and availability of all Kubernetes clusters, responding to alerts and troubleshooting problems, and conducting capacity planning activities. The selected candidate will join a seasoned team of Kubernetes platform administrators with extensive experience and diverse skill sets. There are numerous opportunities for growth through project work and mentorship. Potential projects may include the implementation of self-healing system automation, testing and integrating new bare-metal compute platforms, and setting up Datadog alerts and dashboards.

Baseline Requirements

Comfortable using Linux as a primary OS, especially Ubuntu.

3+ years administering and troubleshooting Linux systems, intermediate proficiency.

Intermediate proficiency with Docker and Linux container internals.

Intermediate proficiency with Python and bash scripting.

Familiarity with using git and Github.

Familiarity with Kubernetes control plane architecture and troubleshooting.

Comfortable with Agile project management in JIRA.

Beneficial Additional Experience

Recent CKA certification. CKAD and CKS certifications are a plus.

Bare-metal Kubernetes management with Rancher and RKE.

Cloud Kubernetes management (GKE, EKS and AKS).

Datadog log and metrics collection; dashboarding.

Deployment and management of Portworx.

Deployment and management of MetalLB.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  
  
  

OR

1+ year of IT-related work experience with a Bachelor’s degree in a non-technical field (e.g., Business, Humanities, Marketing), or related field.

OR

3+ years of IT-related work experience with a High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently transports and installs equipment up to 20 lbs.
