Role Purpose

As a Community Development Officer, you will lead the design and implementation of the community development or mobilization strategy and plan toward the effective and timely achievement of the Power Up Girls Program outputs and outcomes that are inclusive, responsive and climate-informed and the fulfillment of the Sponsorship Operations requirements.

Role Responsibilities

  • Drafts and implements the community development and/or mobilization strategy and plan in the target area/s ensuring that program and sponsorship operations targets and requirements are achieved.
  • Leads in nurturing an environment for community dialogue and participation to strengthen collective action and facilitate project ownership through constituency and active citizenship building.
  • Engages and mobilizes implementing partners including volunteers and other stakeholders at the community level towards timely and quality implementation of project activities.
  • Develops the capacities of community stakeholders, families, and children in engaging with local authorities and other stakeholders to influence policy decisions
  • Provides technical assistance in establishing participatory processes and systems to facilitate the engagement of children, community groups and other stakeholders in local governance
  • Builds and establishes a constituency of support that will drive the joint advocacy and campaign agenda for and with children
  • Leads the sponsorship operations initiatives ensuring meaningful child experience and program participation
  • Leads the sponsorship operations initiatives ensuring meaningful child experience and program participation
  • Supports the Community Mobilizers in the effective and timely implementation of the Global Sponsorship Operations requirements (Annual Family Update, Midyear Eligibility Check (MYEC), correspondence, child enrolment program participation, case stories, materials for marketing, and other GSO requirements)

Other Responsiblities

Additional tasks and responsibilities deemed necessary in the Sponsorship Program may be assigned.

Experience And Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Community Development, Public Administration, Public Health, or a related field.
  • In-depth understanding of the 9 principles of child participation
  • Understanding of Human-Centered Design Thinking
  • Demonstrated experience in participatory approaches, community-based planning, and capacity building.
  • Experience in data analysis and report writing
  • Knowledge in community mobilization strategies
  • Knowledge of adolescent sexual and reproductive health, child protection, and gender issues.
  • Knowledge of Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion
  • Proven experience (at least 3-5 years) in community development, project management, and program implementation, preferably in rural or marginalized communities.
  • Fluency in the local language(s) and proficiency in English for reporting purposes and communication purposes.
  • Experience working with NGOs or development agencies in Child Protection or Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights programs
  • Experience working with NGOs or development agencies in Community Development programs
  • Familiarity with the cultural context and social dynamics of the targeted communities.
